Building and running a Fortune 500 corporate VC program, end to end

The challenge

Fortune 500 client was dissatisfied with the performance of existing venture accelerator program and needed to improve the quality and quantity of early-stage investment opportunities. Goal: build and run from scratch a corporate venture investment program.

The solution

  • Developed bespoke investment thesis and strategy
  • Built infrastructure and weekly sprint process for end-to-end deal flow management, including weekly deal flow meetings with the CEO
  • Sourced and screened thousands of investment opportunities
  • Worked with founders to conduct investment due diligence (market sizing, financial modeling, customer and investor interviews, cap table and waterfall analysis, term sheets, investment documents)
  • Led investment committee meetings, presenting directly to the CEO

The impact

  • >3,000 investment opportunities sourced and screened
  • <0.2% deal selectivity for investment committee (vs. ~1% industry average)
  • Created engine producing consistent, high-quality deal flow
  • Multiple investments successfully made (e.g., pre-seed in creator content search engine, seed in telehealth provider)
